Chapter 9

135 - Chapter Nine Intro

I had grown enough as an artist to feel like I could try drawing the chapter intro banners now, instead of doing simple sprited ones. My vector art style back then leaves a lot to be desired.

136 - The Time Waster

If anyone was curious, no, I do not recommend fourth-wall breaks in one's writing when you're inexperienced. It rarely works out.

137 - Busted!

138 - The Return Of Shadow

139 - Stuff Happens

Apparently, I had forgotten I had given Sencen white text boxes to make his speech more legible. One step forward, one step backward.

140 - The New Arrival

Past me, what the HELL does that line even mean? "If that's the truth, then you need to keep guessing" makes absolutely no sense, especially for someone uninvolved in the conversation to randomly spout. I think I was just trying to have this guy be enigmatic and it just comes across as idiotic.

141 - Our Mystery Guest

Dagmar here is, in fact, the Koopatrol ghost seen at the end of the previous chapter. I used sprites from Yoshi's Island DS to try to illustrate that he looks weird for a Yoshi.

142 - An Odd Confrontation

Absolutely nothing about this gets to go anywhere, since I cancel the comic pretty soon after this. So, honestly, I can't really tell you who this red Rika Kirby is or what she was going to do in the comic's plot.

Funnily enough, I had so little planned or thought out for her, that a year later in my other comic, Kirby Adventure, I introduced an entirely different Kirby character with a different palette and personality, and named her Ryka. There was no relation, it wasn't intentional, and it was only in a reread a few years after the fact that I even realized I accidentally reused the same name twice with a different spelling.

143 - Yoshi Yoshi Yoshi

144 - Yoshism

145 - There They Go, To Save The Day!

146 - The New Arrivals

147 - Self-Esteem Fail

"Oh my god, Deska, you can't just ask somebody why they look weird."

148 - Untustwarty

Chapter 10

149 - Chapter Ten Intro

150 - Finding Stuff

151 - Sparkin' Up Grudges

Aaaand that's the unceremonious final page of the original run. After feeling burnt out, pages for Yoshi & Kirby had been dwindling, and my focus started to shift heavily towards Kirby Adventure. It was pretty clear by the last bunch of pages that my interests had shifted into a Kirby focus, with how infrequently the Yoshi characters had even been showing up in their own crossover, and how only the Kirby characters kept getting to explore and do things.

So, with low motivation, a growing understanding at how badly I had fumbled the premise and meandering plot of this comic, and a huge understanding at how bad the visual presentation was after finally improving with my other comic's visuals... yeah, it was a perfect storm to cancel Yoshi & Kirby at that point. It took over a year, though, but of course, I did wind up trying to reboot the comic and start fresh. You can see those in the Rebooted Pages section.
